What is Airsoft?
Airsoft is a tactical team sport in which players fire biodegradable BBs from realistic replicas to "tag" each other. It's all about strategy, teamwork and fair play — and it's growing fast in Belgium. At Airsoftshop in Poperinge you'll find everything to get started and keep playing.
Unlike paintball, airsoft leaves no visible paint mark: the game relies entirely on players' honesty. That "honour system" culture, combined with realistic gear and tactical play, is what makes airsoft unique.
How does airsoft work?
An airsoft gun is a replica that fires 6 mm BBs. There are several drive systems, each with its own character:
- AEG / AEP (electric) — the most popular choice, reliable and ideal for most players.
- Gas (GBB) — realistic recoil (blowback), popular for pistols.
- HPA (high pressure air) — perfectly adjustable and highly consistent.
- Spring & sniper rifles — manually cocked, for the patient marksman.
Power is expressed in FPS (feet per second) or joules, and is capped on most fields for safety. A good hop-up setting and the right BBs (usually 0.20 to 0.30 g) help determine your accuracy and range.
Safety always comes first
Airsoft is safe as long as everyone follows the rules. Eye protection is mandatory and the single most important piece of your kit. Invest in a solid airsoft goggle or mask and protect your face and hands. Sturdy clothing and tactical gear make the game more comfortable and safer.
