The Wolverine MTW-308 Tactical XBR is a DMR adaptation of the well-known MTW platform. MTW stands for “Modular Training Weapon”, an airsoft platform with high performance and compatibility in mind. Not only can MTW replicas be upgraded with many MTW parts, they are also compatible with AEG and real steel parts and accessories. The quality that Wolverine Airsoft’s MTW platform is known for, shines through in this replica as well. An authentic CNC-machined aluminium .308 receiver is repurposed in the MTW-308. The production process involves the casting of a solid aluminium block, which is then machined to airsoft specifications.

A sturdy 13” aluminium M-LOK handguard is attached to the front of the receiver. A Weaver/Picatinny rail runs along the top of both the receiver and the handguard to mount an optic, for instance. With M-LOK slots around the whole handguard, there is plenty opportunity for customisation by adding accessories like bipod or laser. Inside of the handguard runs the 14.5” outer barrel, which can be extended with the 1.5” barrel extension. This allows the user to lengthen the barrel to 16”, which can be a requirement for the replica to qualify as a DMR on some airsoft fields. Details such as this truly set the MTW-308 apart.

Internally, a similar attention to detail becomes evident in the Wolverine MTW-308 Tactical XBR. Disassembly is toolless, allowing for very easy access to the internals of the replica. The airline connector is fixed at the back of the receiver, just below the buffer tube. This allows for easier use in the prone position, making its intended use as a DMR more convenient. Other additional features that come with the “Tactical” designation are the specially designed pistol grip by DLG, iconic Crane stock and an MS-1 flash hider.

The XBR upgrades that make the Wolverine MTW-308 Tactical XBR stand out are also worth mentioning. An Inferno XTS HPA engine delivers higher performance and consistency, while Bluetooth connectivity makes customisation of the FCU (Fire Control Unit) a breeze. The FCU can also detect when the magazine is empty, if a compatible magazine is used. Firing is then disabled, until a new magazine is loaded and the bolt-release is pressed.

Finally, the Quake MTW stock provides the replica with an advanced method of simulating recoil. It integrates directly with the Inferno XTS engine, which feeds pressured air back into the buffer tube. As a result, the stock is pushed back into the shoulder with every shot, adding even more realism to the user experience.
